Hyperhidrosis is sweating well beyond what the body needs to regulate its temperature. It most often affects the underarms, palms or soles of the feet, and can affect work, relationships and confidence. At Private Skin Clinic in Bromsgrove, Dr Sadhra assesses your symptoms, confirms the diagnosis and discusses the treatment options available to you.
Your consultation
Your appointment starts with a medical assessment to confirm the diagnosis and rule out other causes of excessive sweating, such as thyroid problems, certain medicines or infection. We will also look at what you have already tried, such as prescription-strength antiperspirants.
Treatment options
Where antiperspirants and other measures have not given enough relief, injection treatment may be suitable. If it is clinically appropriate and you choose to go ahead, a prescription-only medicine is injected into the affected skin to reduce sweat production. Most people notice less sweating within a few days, and the effect typically lasts several months before repeat treatment is needed. Results vary between individuals.
Is it suitable for me?
Injection treatment is generally considered for primary focal hyperhidrosis, which is excessive sweating with no other underlying medical cause. It may not be suitable if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have certain neuromuscular conditions, or have an infection at the treatment site. Suitability is confirmed at your consultation.
