Polynucleotides are naturally derived molecules, most commonly purified from salmon or trout DNA, that are injected into the skin to support its own repair processes. Rather than adding volume, they help to improve tissue quality, hydration and elasticity, and stimulate collagen production. At Private Skin Clinic in Bromsgrove, polynucleotide treatment is carried out by Dr Sadhra following a full assessment.
What it can help with
• Thin, crepey or hollow-looking skin under the eyes
• Fine lines and early skin laxity
• Loss of elasticity and general skin rejuvenation
• Skin quality after acne scarring
• Neck and décolletage skin quality
What happens at your appointment
After your consultation, a numbing cream may be applied. The polynucleotide product is injected into the skin using a fine needle or cannula. The treatment takes around 30 minutes.
Downtime and aftercare
Small raised bumps at the injection points are common and usually settle within 24 to 48 hours. Mild swelling, redness and bruising can occur, particularly under the eyes. Avoid make-up for 12 hours, and avoid exercise, alcohol and saunas for 24 hours.
How many sessions will I need?
A course of three sessions spaced two to three weeks apart is usually recommended. Results develop gradually over the following weeks, with maintenance treatments every six to twelve months.
Is it suitable for me?
Polynucleotides are not suitable if you have a fish allergy, and may not be suitable if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have an active skin infection, or have certain autoimmune conditions. Suitability is confirmed at your consultation.

Frequently asked questions
Are polynucleotides the same as dermal filler?
No. Dermal fillers add volume and change shape. Polynucleotides do not add volume; they work by improving the quality of the skin itself.
When will I see results?
Most people notice improvement in skin quality two to four weeks after their second session, with results continuing to build after the course is complete.
