PRP Injections for Skin and Hair

PRP Injections for Skin and Hair

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatment uses your own blood to support the skin’s and scalp’s natural repair processes. A small blood sample is taken and spun in a centrifuge to separate the plasma, which is rich in platelets and growth factors. This is then injected into the skin or scalp, or applied during SkinPen microneedling. At Private Skin Clinic in Bromsgrove, PRP is carried out by Dr Sadhra following a full assessment.

PRP for the skin

PRP can improve overall skin quality, tone and texture, and soften fine lines by stimulating collagen production. It is often used for the under-eye area, acne scarring and general skin rejuvenation.

PRP for hair

PRP can help stimulate hair follicles in people with thinning hair or early-stage pattern hair loss. Because hair loss has many possible causes, we recommend a hair loss assessment first so that any underlying cause is identified before treatment.

What happens at your appointment

A small blood sample is taken from your arm and processed in the clinic while you wait. Numbing cream is applied to the skin for facial treatment. The PRP is then injected using a fine needle or applied with microneedling. The appointment takes around 60 minutes.

Downtime and aftercare

Mild redness, swelling and small pinprick marks are common and usually settle within 24 to 48 hours. Some bruising is possible. Avoid make-up for 12 hours, and avoid exercise, alcohol and saunas for 24 hours. For scalp treatment, avoid washing your hair until the following day.

How many sessions will I need?

For the skin, a course of three sessions spaced four to six weeks apart is usually recommended. For hair, three to four sessions spaced around four weeks apart are usually recommended. Maintenance treatments every six to twelve months help to sustain results.

Is it suitable for me?

PRP may not be suitable if you have a blood or platelet disorder, take blood-thinning medication, have an active skin infection, have active cancer or are pregnant. Suitability is confirmed at your consultation.

Frequently asked questions

Is PRP safe?

Because PRP is prepared from your own blood, the risk of allergic reaction is very low. As with any injection, there is a small risk of bruising, swelling or infection, which is discussed at your consultation.

When will I see results?

Skin improvements develop gradually over two to three months. Hair results take longer, and are usually assessed three to six months after starting treatment.
